Alvababy Newborn Diapers Review

I have used these cloth diapers for 6 weeks and have been overall very happy with my purchase. I now own 18 of these as they make up the majority of my newborn stash. I started using them when my son was 6 lbs and they were a little too big. We had minor leaks but continued to use them. As he grew bigger we had absorbency issues and ended up doubling up on the inserts and adjusting the snaps. Out of the 25 newborn cloth diapers we own these are my favorite.

Alvababy Cloth Diaper Review

It was a hard debate whether to give these 4 or 5 stars. I went with 5 stars because for the price, these are my favorite cloth diapers and will be my go-to diapers if I need to order more, but they are not what I would consider to be the best.

First of all, I’ve always struggled with the absorbency issue with cloth diapers (although, side note, I have had WAY less poop blowouts in cloth than when we use disposables when we’re on trips away from home – another perk of cloth diapers!).

So for the AlvaBaby Diapers to have the snaps for sizing and a GREAT price – I was sold. A major perk is that I can hang these diapers up in my dark, cold, below ground basement during winter in Northeast Ohio and they dry overnight – no more having to use the dryer which gives me hope that they may last longer than 2 years. I still wash them in Tide and I wash the shells in warm water, extra rinse, heavy soil setting and I wash the inserts separately – also in Tide, hot water, extra rinse, heavy soil setting.

Leaks do happen with the AlvaBaby diapers. If you look at the uploaded pictures of the one on Baby, anywhere the white, inner lining is showing is a potential leak spot where it touches Baby’s clothing. I really try to make sure that fleece lining is tucked inside the diaper, which helps to minimize leaking.

Also, several of the AlvaBaby diapers have a velvety/velour type cover which is more prone to leaks than the more “plasticy” covers because they absorb moisture from the inside liner too (see the cow print cover vs. plain blue photo).

The styles and colors available are really adorable and I’ve gotten a lot of compliments. Sorry for the lengthy review, but all in all, these are a GREAT value in cloth diapering and I would absolutely buy them again and recommend them to anyone.

Care Instructions

– Before you use it for the first time, wash it. Colors should be washed separately.
– It normally takes a few washing for it to achieve its maximum absorbency (could be 6 washes or more)
– Insert the insert into the diaper through the back open pocket.
– Liquid will be absorbed into the insert through the inner layer of the diaper.
– When sleeping or as needed, more than one insert may be required.
– To avoid nappy rash, change the diaper every 2-3 hours and when it is wet.

How long do alva baby diapers last ?

Yo girl has switched over from disposable to these cloth diapers for her 2 month old. Sure she’s got the coin, but why pay for trash when you can be addin’ To the stash?! Homegirl is saving up for one of those nice water floss machines. Anywho, homebaby does fine in these diapers. He has leaked through but can go about 2-3 hours without a change. As for #2? (Poop) Homegirl changes it right away. She dunks the chunks, soaks the diaper until wash day, and then washes a load of them. Homegirl bought 18 diapers and so far it lasts her 2.5 days before she has to wash them. And she didn’t pay for the fancy patterns. Her homebaby is learnin early to not fall for the upcharge. And while other brands may be better quality, these are $5 each! It don’t get better than that. Homegirl also bought the alvibaby charcoal Bamboo inserts which are much sturdier and easier to insert into the diaper. She recommends those. – A customer review
